Which Woven PP Cover Do You Need?

Tell us what you're covering and whether it needs to breathe or stay bone dry. We'll point you to the right woven polypropylene cover, the spec to ask for, and the reason it fits — no guesswork.

Choosing an outdoor cover comes down to two things: what you're protecting and whether that product needs to release moisture or stay sealed. Get those right and the cover lasts the season instead of failing in it. Use the selector below, or read the full recommendations further down the page.

Every Cover, and When to Use It

Each recommendation below shows what it protects, why the material fits, and the spec to ask for when you request a quote.

Covering lumber & engineered wood? Use Lumber Wrap

Dimensional lumber, kiln-dried packs, engineered wood, and firewood bundles in sawmill yards, distribution, and export.

Kiln-dried and green lumber keep releasing moisture after wrapping. A breathable woven PP wrap lets that vapour escape while blocking rain and UV — protecting lumber grade where a sealed poly tarp would trap condensation and stain the wood.

CoatingBreathable (PE-coated option for full waterproofing)
Fabric weight70–100 GSM
UVHALS additive package (outdoor service)

Covering hay bales & silage? Use Hay Tarps & Bale Covers

Round-bale stacks, square-bale runs, and silage/bunker piles stored in the field or yard.

Baled hay releases moisture as it cures. Under sealed plastic that moisture condenses and breeds mould — destroying feed value. Breathable woven PP blocks rain and snow while letting the bales breathe, so hay keeps its quality through the season.

Covering pallets & finished goods? Use Pallet Covers & Load Tarps

Palletized inventory in outdoor staging, at loading docks, and on flatbed/open-deck transport, plus export pallets.

Finished goods just need rain kept off, and stretch film shreds outdoors in days. Waterproof PE-coated woven PP tarpaulin drapes over a pallet or a run of pallets, survives highway wind and handling, and keeps loads dry from origin to destination.

Fabric weight80–110 GSM

Covering construction materials & stockpiles? Use Construction Covers

Material stockpiles (sand, gravel, aggregate, salt), palletized supplies, scaffold enclosures, and staging-area inventory on active job sites.

Job sites destroy lightweight tarps with wind and sharp edges. Heavy-duty woven PP resists tearing and UV for the full project. Use PE-coated for a hard water barrier, or the breathable option for damp materials that would otherwise trap condensation. For piles specifically, see stockpile covers.

Covering nursery, greenhouse & landscaping? Use Ground Cover & Weed Barrier

Weed suppression and ground stabilization for nurseries, greenhouses, and commercial landscaping.

Ground cover has the opposite job of a tarp: it must let water and air through to the soil while blocking weeds and stabilizing the surface. Water-permeable woven PP does exactly that, and holds up to foot traffic and UV far better than landscape fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

If the product releases moisture — hay, green or kiln-dried lumber, freshly stored aggregate — choose breathable woven PP, because a sealed cover traps that moisture and causes mould and staining. If the product is a finished, dry, or packaged good that just needs rain kept off, choose PE-coated waterproof woven PP. Ground cover is the exception: it is water-permeable so moisture reaches the soil while weeds are blocked.

The key parameters are material (woven PP), coating (breathable, PE-coated waterproof, or permeable), fabric weight in GSM, UV rating in hours, roll width, and format (rolls cut to length, or sleeves for lumber). The selector above gives a starting spec for each application. If you send the product, dimensions, and how long it sits outdoors, we confirm the exact spec on the quote.

Often, yes. The same UV-stabilized woven PP base is supplied on rolls and cut to length, so a single breathable or PE-coated roll spec can serve several jobs — for example lumber and pallet staging, or hay and general yard covering. Standardizing on one or two roll specs simplifies procurement and puts more volume behind a single SKU. Ask us about a combined supply program.
