Not every lumber bundle is a uniform rectangle. Mixed loads, rough-cut timber, and engineered wood products often have irregular profiles that make tubular sleeves difficult to apply. Half sleeves drape over the top and fold down the sides, conforming to whatever shape the load presents — no wrestling required.
Building supply dealers need to protect inventory from weather while keeping it accessible for customer inspection and order picking. Half sleeves cover the top and sides of a bundle but leave the ends open, allowing yard staff to read grade stamps, pull individual pieces, and re-cover the bundle quickly.
For domestic transport where lumber will be unloaded within days, full tubular coverage may be more protection than necessary. Half sleeves provide rain and road-spray protection for the top and sides of flatbed loads at a lower material cost, and they are faster to apply and remove at the loading dock.

Learn More →A tubular sleeve is a closed tube that slides over the bundle end, providing 360-degree coverage. A half sleeve is slit along one side, so it wraps around the bundle from the top without needing access to the bundle end. Half sleeves are faster to apply but provide coverage on three sides rather than four.
Choose half sleeves when speed of application matters more than full enclosure — for example, in lumber yards with high turnover, for domestic transport, or when bundles are too large or irregularly shaped to accept a tubular sleeve. Choose tubular when complete moisture protection is required, such as for export or long-term outdoor storage.
Yes. Half sleeves are typically held in place with the same steel or plastic strapping used to band the lumber bundle. The strapping passes over the wrap, pinching it against the bundle and preventing it from shifting during transport or in windy yard conditions.
Yes. Anti-slip coating can be applied to the inner surface of the half sleeve to help it grip the lumber bundle and reduce shifting. This is particularly useful for loads transported on flatbed trucks where the wrap is exposed to wind and vibration.
