Specialty PP Woven Bag Configurations

Block-bottom, valve-top, anti-static, UV-stabilized, UN-certified, and food-grade configurations. Engineered solutions for applications that go beyond standard woven PP bags.

Beyond Standard — Bags Built for Demanding Applications

Some products and handling environments require more than a standard open-mouth woven polypropylene bag. Sackora manufactures a full range of specialty configurations that address specific filling, storage, compliance, and product-protection challenges. Each configuration is available individually or combined to create a bag that meets multiple requirements simultaneously. Block-bottom bags stand upright on pallets and retail shelves, creating a professional, self-supporting package. Valve-top bags accept automated filling nozzles for dust-free, high-speed packaging lines. Draw-cord closures provide reusable opening and re-sealing for products dispensed in partial quantities. Anti-static treatments dissipate electrical charge for combustible powders and electronic component packaging. UV stabilization extends outdoor storage life from weeks to months. Food-grade certification ensures compliance with CFIA and FDA regulations for direct and indirect food contact. UN certification qualifies bags for the transport of hazardous materials under TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) and IATA regulations. Custom PE and foil liners provide additional moisture, oxygen, and aroma barriers for the most sensitive products. Every specialty feature is engineered and tested to perform under real supply-chain conditions.

Common Applications

Automated Filling Lines — Cement, Chemicals, and Powders

Valve-top bags are designed for automated bag-placing and filling systems that operate at high speeds with minimal dust emission. The valve accepts the filling nozzle, seals after filling through product weight compression, and eliminates the need for secondary closure operations. This configuration is standard in cement plants, dry-mix mortar facilities, and chemical powder packaging lines across Canada.

Hazardous Materials and Regulated Goods

Products classified as dangerous goods under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act require UN-certified packaging that has been tested and approved for the specific hazard class. Sackora supplies UN-marked woven PP bags with the required drop, stack, and vibration test certifications. Anti-static treatment is added when the product or environment presents an ignition risk from electrostatic discharge.

Premium Retail and Food-Service Packaging

Block-bottom bags with BOPP lamination and food-grade liners create a retail-ready package that stands on the shelf, displays branded graphics on a flat face panel, and protects product freshness. This configuration is used by specialty food producers, pet food brands, and agricultural co-operatives that sell directly to consumers or through retail distribution channels.

Frequently Asked Questions

A block-bottom bag has a flat, rectangular bottom that allows the bag to stand upright on its own when filled. This creates a clean, professional appearance on retail shelves and pallets. Use block-bottom bags when your product is sold at retail, when you need stable pallet stacking without external support, or when your brand presentation requires a flat face panel for printed graphics.

A valve-top bag has a small opening (typically 10–15cm diameter) sewn into the top panel. The bag is placed on an automated bag-hanging system, a filling nozzle inserts into the valve, and product flows in under gravity or air pressure. When the target weight is reached, the nozzle withdraws and the valve self-closes under the weight of the product. No sewing, heat sealing, or manual closure is needed, which reduces labour and eliminates dust at the fill point.

UN certification requires that the bag pass a series of performance tests specified by the United Nations for the transport of dangerous goods. These include drop tests from a specified height, stacking tests under load, and vibration tests simulating transport conditions. The bag is then assigned a UN packaging code and marking that identifies the approved hazard class, packing group, and maximum gross weight. Sackora supplies bags with valid UN test reports and correct marking for Canadian TDG and international IATA compliance.

Yes. Specialty features are modular and can be combined. For example, you can order a valve-top bag with anti-static treatment and a PE liner, or a block-bottom bag with UV stabilization and food-grade certification. We will confirm compatibility during the quoting process and advise on any combinations that require specific engineering considerations.

PE (polyethylene) liners are the most common and provide moisture protection at low cost. They are available in loose-insert or form-fit configurations from 50 to 150 microns. Foil liners use aluminium foil laminated to PE and provide oxygen, moisture, and aroma barriers for the most sensitive products — coffee, spices, and hygroscopic chemicals. Your choice depends on the sensitivity of the product, required shelf life, and storage conditions. We recommend the minimum liner specification that meets your protection requirements to optimize cost.
